Christmas Baskets for the Mothers of Children Living with Disabilities

CIPECADI (www.cipecadi.com) is a Guatemalan charity that the Embrace International Foundation (Embrace) enthusiastically supports. It is a place where love is shown to children and youth with Down syndrome, autism, infant cerebral paralysis, and behavioural disorders.

CIPECADI believes that all children have both value and worth. CIPECADI is an organization where respect for human rights and solidarity towards people with disabilities is honoured. Tragically, however, many of the mothers of the children within CIPECADI’s program had their husbands walk out of the marriage when a special needs child arrived. Most of these women live in extreme poverty.

Every December CIPECADI gives these women a special gift. They receive a Canasto Navideno (Christmas basket). These baskets contain rice, beans, cooking oil, coffee, tea, soap, and personal hygiene items. The baskets cost approximately $40 each and provide the mothers of CIPECADI’s children with a very helpful blessing at Christmas. This year Embrace will once again be providing CIPECADI with the funding to assemble Canastos Navidenos.

Please, if you are able to assist us with this initiative, it would help to make Christmas a little more cheery for a single mother and her special needs child. Your $40 gift will go straight towards the purchase of locally acquired supplies from the markets of Guatemala.
